Cutting corners during Covid could void many home-insurance policies
With a surge in home improvements and many people moving home, Gas Safety campaigners are encouraging all homeowners to check the contents of their insurance policies. New research shows that the pandemic has made people more frugal with money and encouraged a ‘DIY’ shift rather than depending on registered professionals for breakdowns and improvements. Carrying out these jobs without using a qualified professional can invalidate your home insurance and in the case of gas can put lives at risk.

Adding Inhibitor to your heating system
Inhibitor is an additive that protects the heating system from debris build up. Our good quality inhibitor prevents limescale & corrosion formation in central heating systems. We use a product that offers superior protection, it binds to the metal within the heating system to protect from debris alongside cathodic and anodic inhibitors which react with the system’s metal surface to create a protective layer.
It also has enhanced pH buffering to ensure the system water pH level does not fall below 6.5 or rise above 8.5, this is the best pH range for prevention of debris build up. Our inhibitor works with all heating systems of various metals including aluminum. BS 7593:2019 recommends concentration levels should be maintained and checked annually as part of the boiler service.
We can test any central heating system for levels of inhibitors with an onsite sample check. Many boiler manufacturers will query the warranty on your boiler if the inhibitor levels are low or non-existent.
Why do I need it Keeping the water to a correct pH along with the protecting additives will drastically extend the life of the heating system.
Aluminium parts in the boiler are attacked by a high pH (alkaline) leading to component failure.
Magnetite is a product of the iron oxide called Hematite which forms when heating high alkaline water (pH 9.0-9.3) and an oxygen free atmosphere. It is very common and leads to sludge & blockages throughout the heating system.
Limescale is a buildup of calcium carbonate deposits that are present in water but become more of a problem in hard water. When heated to above 60 degrees scale build up significantly increases. Bournemouth & surrounding areas have hard water which is very high in mineral deposits with a hardness level of 278.30 ppm. Another common problem is a kettling noise coming from your boiler which is a sign of scale build up in the heat exchanger.
Dissimilar metals in a boiler can be a problem. Our inhibitor will react with the metal surfaces to create a protective layer for added protection.
