Why is there sludge in the radiator?

The older your central heating system is, the more likely it is you have sludge in your radiators.
Blocked radiators make your bills higher, as your heating has to work harder to warm your home. Sludge can also damage your boiler, heat pump and valves.

  • Radiator sludge is a mix of dirt and rust. This builds up over time and gathers at the bottom of your radiators.
  • The sludge stops hot water flowing through your system properly. This creates cold areas on your radiator.
  • Other areas of the radiator are unaffected by the sludge and warm up as normal.
What equipment do you use?

The Norstrom proflush is consistently recognised as one of the top power flushing machines. It operates at 85 degrees which is the highest operating temperature of machines available and is persistently recommended on UK plumber forums.

The professional unit operates at a flow rate of 150 litres per minute and is capable of flushing up to 40 radiators over 3 storeys.

With the addition of the Magmaster Integral Unit this adds two of the most powerful built in magnets on the market  ( 2x 12,000 gauss magnets )

Prices start from £550 for up to 7 radiators, then £85 for each the additional radiator.

Power Flushing

How long does it take?

Depending on the size of your heating system a power flush is generally completed within a day. If you have a larger more complicated system, it can take a little longer. We drain everything down and isolate and flush each radiator individually. We refill your system with clean fresh water and add chemical inhibitors to stop debris building up again
